JEFFERSON – Help is out there, and recovery is possible.
That was the message of the 4th annual International Overdose Awareness Day observance that took place Friday, Aug. 29, on the lawn of the Old Ashtabula County Courthouse in Jefferson.
Organized by the Ashtabula County Health Department and joined by the Ashtabula County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, the observance featured a proclamation from the Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners, testimonials, and resource tables from a number of providers in the county.
ACHD Director of Nursing David Shumate and ACHD Health Educator Maggie McClymonds led the organization of the event.
“We work in partnership with the MHRS Board in organizing everything, and all the partners out here,” Shumate said.
The partners all provide resources for harm reduction and opioid resources.
Those providers included Adam’s Angels, Ashtabula County Children Services, What If? Network, University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center, and Conneaut Medical Center, BrightView, Community Counseling Center, Lake Area Recovery Center, Signature Health, Ashtabula City Health Department, Glenbeigh, Anchor of Hope, Impact Recovery Center, MHRS, and the Ashtabula County Health Department.
