On November 20th, the Ashtabula Arts Center hosted this year’s Hope in Artistry reception, an annual November tradition now in its 9th year. The exhibit brought together local artists who use their creativity to reflect on personal experiences with suicide, mental health challenges, and the journey toward healing.

This powerful collection of artwork highlights the courage found in recovery capturing moments of struggle, stories of resilience, and the deep grief of losing a loved one to suicide. In 2024, our community lost 19 individuals to suicide, a devastating reminder of how far-reaching the impact can be. Hopelessness touches not only those who experience it directly but also the friends and family who walk beside them.

For many artists, creating these pieces has been a meaningful part of their healing, offering a way to process pain, share hope, and foster connection. Through this exhibit and other community efforts, the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board along with the Suicide Prevention Coalition remains committed to reducing stigma, supporting suicide prevention, and honoring all who have been affected by suicide loss.
